Research laboratory for studying

Protein Structure, Dynamics, and Allostery

Madan Laboratory, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, MUSC

Our Toolbox

        Molecular Biology and Protein Biochemistry

We use molecular biology technologies to clone, express, and purify recombinant protein kinases and protein phosphatases. Oncogenic kinase/phosphatase proteins are obtained using site-directed mutagenesis. The biophysical and biological characteristics of purified proteins are investigated.

       Molecular Biophysics and Structural Biology

To investigate protein structure and dynamics, we use a number of structural biology approaches, including Supercomputing-based Molecular Dynamics Simulations. Our lab has two mini-clusters with NVIDIA 3090RTX GPU cards and numerous tools for protein structural analysis.

Mathematical Modeling

We study protein allostery, enzymology, and cellular signaling networks using advanced mathematical modeling. To comprehend the workings and regulation of protein kinases and protein phosphatases in atomic detail, graph theory approaches, enzyme flow modeling, and network models are used.
